Our Model Railroad is controlled by computer programs and electronic circuits that I designed from scratch.  The computer knows exactly where each train is on the layout and the speed it is traveling.   Switch tracks, sound effects, engine speed and direction are also computer controlled.   The computer program contains scripts which run multiple trains through their paces, picking up passengers in town etc.., for 20 minutes or more.

Manual operation is also available for those who feel that this kind of control takes the fun out of operating a model railroad.
